X-C Distance Contest

Short Rules:
Flights submitted into this database can be optionally entered into a distance contest. At the end of the season the pilot with the greatest distance flown during his best 3 flights will win. This is an unofficial contest - there may or may not be any prize.

Long Rules:
Only flights originating from 3B3 or sites of a club encampment (e.g., Springfield, Franconia, Gorham) can be submitted for scoring. Pilots will be scored in one of 3 divisions: bronze (pilots who have not previously flown a 50-km flight), silver (pilots who have not previously flown a 300-km flight), gold (all others). Flights will be handicaped according to the SSA Sports Class glider handicap list. The pilot with the most combined points from his best 3 flights during the season will win. The season will last from April 1, 2004, to November 30, 2004. The 1% rule applies: the height between the start altitude and the finish altitude must be less than 1% of the distance flown. Submission of an IGC file or GPS track convertible to an IGC file is required. Pre-declared tasks will be scored at 1.5 points/km, undeclared tasks will be scored at 1 point/km. Undeclared points can be added to a flight after the declared task is completed. There are no rules regarding what constitutes a declaration, but some evidence should be maintained. There are no limits on turnpoints, except that consecutive undeclared turnpoints must be at least 15km apart (8 km for bronze division). Submitted flights do not have to qualify as x-c flights under the GBSC rules. Pilots will score their own flights.
Example: A pilot in a 1-34 (handicap 1.200) declares a 107 km task. After completing the task he flies an additional 45 km using undeclared turnpoints. His score will be:
score = (107 x 1.5 + 45 ) x 1.200 = 246.6
